Corona: Beer VS Virus

Corona: Beer VS Virus

Here we will be discussing CORONA: Beer VS Virus. While the names Corona Beer and Coronavirus sound related, in actuality, they are two totally different entities. Since then, the world has become aware of this virus. The number of Internet searches has skyrocketed. Consequently, I will compare the two for you.

CORONA: Beer VS Virus

Wuhan Coronavirus

With the outbreak of the potentially deadly coronavirus, many are wondering if the virus is found in the popular Corona beer. Certainly, the answer to that is NO! Now, that does not mean you will not catch the virus if you share a beer with someone infected with the virus. While the name coronavirus may sound complicated, there is actually a family of viruses that can cause multiple illnesses. Some you may have heard of before. For example, SARS-CoV The shortened term is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Another example of a coronavirus is MERS-CoV. Just a fancy name for the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.

Since all of these viruses are contagious, certain precautions are needed. As with most viruses, there is a wide range of outcomes:

First of all, there is the mild form. Which can include fever, cough, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing.

Secondly, there is the moderate form. These symptoms, along with the ones mentioned above, can progress into pneumonia. Or even severe acute respiratory syndrome.

♦ Finally, there is the severe form. Usually resulting in long-term illness; caused by damage to vital organs. Of course, the worst outcome is death.

CORONA: Beer VS Virus, And The World Health Organization!

Wuhan Coronavirus

The WHO, or World Health Organization, has labeled this virus as the Wuhan Coronavirus. While you might read some references to the 2019-nCoV, they are the same virus. Now, as with all health precautions, the better the prevention, the lower the risk of becoming ill. Certainly, most of these precautions are common sense. First and foremost, avoid someone with the virus. But, as we know, that is not always possible. Secondly, if you are feeling ill, STAY HOME!

Other precautions include washing your hands frequently. Especially when using objects that are not under your control. Such as shopping baskets and free dispensers of hand lotions. Most importantly, after using the bathroom, Certainly, one of the tricks I have learned is that I do not toss my paper towel into the trashcan until after I use it to open the bathroom door to leave. Another important thing to remember is to stay home or cover your nose and mouth when venturing out. If you are either very young or very old, included in this are those with compromised immune systems.

Corona Beer

Corona Beer

Well, now we get to the fun part. Let us talk about the beer!  Of course, most of us know that Corona Beer comes from Mexico. But what most people do not know is that the recipe is of German origin. Arriving in Mexico around 1925 with German immigrants as Pilsner beer, the brewery began and still is in Grupo Modelo, (Cervecreria Modelo). As the largest brewery in Mexico.

While beer contains many bubbles from the fermenting process, those bubbles look nothing like the pictures of the coronavirus I have shown you. In fact, beer has many health qualities. Just read the list below:

♦ Beer has been proven to be more nutritious than any other alcoholic beverage.

♦ While it also has protection factors for your heart.

♦ There have been studies to suggest the prevention of kidney stones.

♦ I like this one: Beer lowers bad cholesterol.

♦ The nutrients in beer help to strengthen bones.

♦ As with the consumption of any alcoholic beverage, it reduces stress. But only when used in moderation.

♦ Improves memory and helps cognitive function.

♦Lastly, but not least, it may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

**The key to all of these health benefits is the use of moderation. Getting wasted is not moderation! Please “NEVER” drink and drive.**
