Nursing Helpful Hints is a collection of hints learned from both sides of the fence. As a patient and a healthcare provider, these were accumulated throughout my nursing career. Collect C Diff Sample: This can be especially challenging in elderly women. Since C Diff causes diarrhea. Moreover, most elderly women are also incontinent of urine. Which results in contamination of the specimen. Now the question becomes. How to collect a clean sample. While I was nursing. There were so many times that a patient was sent home. Since I am sort of a klutz, I have had my share of finger splints. While splinting the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Digits is relatively simple. The Thumb and Index Finger require a very secure wrap. This is due to the increased use of these two digits. Without a secure wrap, the splint can move to cause an abrasion on the skin. As well as the unwanted movement of the digit having the splint.
