More Ways To Enjoy And Incorporate Wine Into Your Life

There are many ways to incorporate wine into your life. One of the ways is to add wine to your cooking. By doing so, I find that each wine brings a completely different aspect to the flavors of your food. Therefore, my style of cooking is like flying by the seat ofyour-pants! Nothing that I prepare ever comes out exactly like the last time I made that particular recipe. But that is not necessarily a bad outcome. Each time something is a little different, it helps to keep boredom away from that dish. My mother was a great cook, yet she never measured any of her ingredients. Learning to cook this way allowed me to play with the spices of the meals. Yet the majority of the time, our meals tasted very close to the same. And no one could tell the difference.

As my progression in learning to cook evolved, I found that I liked to experiment with new types of ways to present food. Certainly, my poor parents never knew what was in store for them when they came home for dinner. I started devouring cookbooks and incorporating many ingredients from one dish to the one that I was making that night. They came home to flaming pork chops, spinach soufflé’s, cherries jubilee, stuffed mushrooms… you name it, I tried to make it. I found that it was easy to get as fancy as I wanted using what we already had at home.

Then I discovered cooking with Wine

That was when my meals were never exactly the same again.  With so many different wines to choose from, there is always another flavor to add to my meats, sauces, gravies, BBQ, vegetables, desserts, etc. The list is endless.  By doing so, I had a hard time trying to figure out which wines were going to give me the “flavor” that would enhance the meal that I was preparing.

To help me incorporate wine into my life through cooking. I found that I really did not know which wine would bring out and enhance the flavors in my meals. So to my great relief and surprise…

I found that when I became a member of The Largest Wine Of The Month Club; they helped me find just the right wine for the “flavor” that I wanted. They include wine pairing cards with each shipment I receive that not only suggest which foods would be a good match for that particular bottle of wine, but the paring cards list the “flavors” of each wine. Like orange peel, lemon zest, and boxwood for one of the white wines that I received. Then there was the jammy black plum for one of the red wines, and the list goes on.

Use Chemistry To Incorporate Wine Into Your Life: Did You Know That You Can Keep a Red Wine Spill From Staining..

When I was in chemistry class in college, one of my professors taught me an amazing piece of information.  “Like dissolves like.” He proceeded to give some examples. A red wine stain on furniture or carpeting can be cleaned by pouring small amounts of white wine on the stain. And then blotting up the moisture and stain.  This is done in small increments by adding and blotting until the stain is gone. As a result, your leftover wines can now have a new use. Therefore, another way to incorporate wine into your life is by using it as a cleaner and decreasing your use of harmful chemicals.

Another way that I incorporate wine into my life is that I use leftover wines for many different uses around the house and garden.

More ways to incorporate wine into your life would be to make a “Vinegar” for a base to clean with. The first thing I do is get some large mason jars and some cheesecloth.  Next, I keep on hand a supply of mother vinegar, sometimes called virgin vinegar.  What this means is that this type of vinegar is unpasteurized, so you and your family won’t be adding chemical preservatives to your body or the environment.  You will be using a 4:1 ratio of wine to mother vinegar. Make it by the gallon, and you will keep your supply constantly fermenting. Certainly, you can make any amount that you choose.  Once the wine vinegar is ready, usually in a couple of weeks, you can make your own homemade wine vinegar for salads and seasoning.

Incorporate Wine Into Your Life By Turning It Into Vinegar: Vinegar is a Natural Antibacterial, and Anti-Mold agent

Having had a German mother, I learned the value of cleaning with vinegar.  It can be used throughout the home and garden. My bucket contains (I usually use 2 cups of vinegar per gallon of water), vinegar, hot water, and 2 drops of blue Dawn dishwashing soap.  By using this, you can leave your windows, mirrors, countertops, bathtubs, showers, and toilets spotless. The vinegar will disinfect these surfaces as well as remove any greasy fingerprints from your appliances and nicknacks. Now you can add this as another way to incorporate wine into your life.

But please do not throw out that bucket of water, Dawn, and vinegar yet. Here is another way to incorporate wine into your life:

Now take it outside; vinegar is a great weed killer.  Therefore, this is just another way to incorporate wine into your life. Consequently, be careful where you pour this water because it will also kill plants.  What I like to do is take a funnel; it does not have to be a big one. To follow up, I then take a screwdriver and poke a hole either in the center of the weed or as close to the roots as I can get.  Finally, I pour a little of the bucket water through the funnel into the weed. For best results, use a small measuring cup for this step.

If enough mixture was used, the weed should show signs of dying in about 3 to 5 days, depending on the size of the weed.  Remember, you can always add a little more, but you cannot remove the mixture if you use more than necessary. You will know that too much was poured if a nearby plant starts to die along with the weed.

For large areas of weeds, I live on five acres, I take a gallon watering can with the end that is round and flat with little holes. Use this type to pour around fences, rocks, anywhere that weeds grow in mass.  You can do this anytime of the year.

Vinegar is not harmful to streams, the small amounts that might be taken from your yard during the rainy season, or any other bodies of water.  It cannot harm septic tanks, although you don’t want to pour an entire bucket down your sink if you are on a septic tank. It will slow down the bacteria growth needed to breakdown waste.
