Who am I and why Cassie’s Corner? I have been an animal lover all of my life. They have come in many shapes and forms, and there have been a lot of them. There have been so many pets throughout my life. From birds to horses. Certainly, some have been better than others. Yet there have been very few that have owned my heart. Even though I loved each and every one of them. I will raise a glass of fine wine to celebrate each and everyone of my critters.
Why Cassie’s Corner? Cassie is my Landseer Newfoundland dog. While this site is a tribute to her, I want to share this marvelous breed. Now, my reason for acquiring Cassie was to use her as my service dog. However, she has become so much more. Certainly, she is my balance for my bad knees. In addition, she has learned all of my habits. Therefore, if I sleep through a medication alarm, I will find her cold nose waking me to take them.
Newfoundland Breed History…

While the origins of this breed begin on the Canadian coast, in the region of Newfoundland and Labrador, however, this is a very cold, rugged, and windswept area. Evolution gave them a large and balanced animal. Many people think that the Algonquin and Sioux Indians were the ones who first tamed the species, even though the breed’s true origins are uncertain.History has shown a giant dog once as a fixture on the great plains. Many were sighted along the eastern seaboard.
Why Cassie’s Corner? Newfoundlands Were Made For Helping Mankind
First Documentation of the Newfoundland Dog: There is a legend that Leif Erikson (the Viking) landed on the island of Newfoundland with a large black dog. Since this was over one thousand years ago, it may just be a legend. Of course, what we do know is that this breed was originally bred for carting & hauling. While also being used by fishermen to haul in nets full of fish. They are also natural rescuers. Most importantly, they are known for saving people from drowning. Since there are many documented cases of these dogs heroically and selflessly rescuing passengers and crew from sinking vessels, certainly one is known to have rescued Napoleon Bonaparte on his trip home from Elba.
The Newfoundland Dog:
One of the best examples is the celebrated story of the rescue off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1919. The shipwreck of the Ethie brought to light a Newfoundland named Tang. He carried a line from the Ethie to shore during a storm. Thus saving all of the passengers and crew. When you search through the history of the Newfoundland dog,. All of the searches I have done have led to at least 1 dramatic rescue by this amazing dog.

How do I begin to express just how much she has changed my life? Before I had her, my now-ex-husband was stuck taking me everywhere I needed to go. I was able to drive, but I was having issues with my knees suddenly giving out. Which was causing me to fall frequently. Well, now she is my rock, and she goes everywhere with me. While I have been given so much joy and love from this dog, I have found that she is a natural attraction for people big and small.
Because of the smiles that she brings to all those who love her. Therefore, I want to share her with as many people as I can. Part of that is an expression of this site. My goal is to enrich the lives of those unknown faces that find themselves here reading my articles.

Since acquiring Cassie, my life has changed. Yet I have also become very conscious of how we are impacting the environment. Hence the helpful hints for home, health, and the environment. Consequently, it prolongs the lives of all the amazing creatures around the world.
