Churros Homemade Original Recipe: A Treat For All Seasons

Churros are not just for dessert. There are as many ways to enjoy them; as there are days in the year. While traditionally a dessert. You can enjoy them any time of the day. First of all, instead of French toast for breakfast. Second, stuff with meat or cheese for lunch. When done in an air fryer, use as a side dish for dinner. Naturally, there are so many different ways to enjoy them as snacks any time of the day. One of my favorites is to make strawberries like used in short-cake. Then add a Sweet Wine with a little almond flavoring to spoon over the top. Now here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 6 tbsp. butter
  • 2 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • Your favorite non-hydrogenated vegetable oil, for frying (omit if using an air fryer).
  • Cinnamon/Sugar mixture

Instructions:

In a large saucepan using medium heat. Combine butter, sugar, and water; bring to a boil. Next, add vanilla extract and remove from heat. Now add flour and salt stirring until thickened. This will take approximately 30 seconds. **This Is Very Important! Let the mixture cool for 10 minutes** To cool the mixture by using a hand mixer, beat in the eggs. Add one by one until thoroughly combined. Once cooled, transfer into a baker’s piping bag using the large open star attachment.

If frying, heat a large pot using medium heat, add your oil. Fill the pot about halfway up the side. Heat to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. While holding the piping bag just a few inches above the hot oil dispense a 6-inch rope. Use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut the rope. Fry approximately 3 or 4 at a time until they are golden brown. Usually four or five minutes. Turning when necessary. Allow the oil to reheat to 375 degrees between each batch. Immediately when removing from oil with a slotted spoon or tongs; roll churros in the cinnamon/sugar mixture. Now you can make your favorite dipping sauce.
